Hiden Chochin DaiGoyou (2009)

DaiGoyou is one of those pieces that are just about as perfect as plastic representations of things can get. I suppose if someone was dying to use him for a Genta or Kotoha cosplay, they could complain that he isn’t 1:1 scale, but very VERY few role-play toys ever are. He’s scaled to combine with the mecha (Shinken DaiGoyou is super underrated) and really very robust in adult hands. Again, I personally have no complaints, whatsoever. The voice work is spot-on and as endearing as it is in the show itself. He can hold eight hiden discs and even sings the jingle from the commercials, if you pester him enough.

DaiGoyou is love.

Comparisons of the various releases can be found below the cut.

5 Truths from the Mouth of Mouné out of 5

DaiGoyou comes with two hiden discs. The Sukedachi (assistance) Disc and his standard attack disc.

As far as I’m aware, the Bandai Asia and BoJ releases are exactly the same. As it contains voice clips, I’d look into whether or not they were changed for a Korean release, if there was one. They changed the voice clips in the Tensouder. It doesn’t seem like there’s a Korean release, but there was a repackage of the Shodophone with Power Rangers Samurai branding, so I can’t say with any confidence that there wasn’t a third Eastern release.

The Lightzord from Bandai of America is an interesting, stylized take on DaiGoyou. He’s rounded off in his torso making him look like Bluto from Popeye. That doesn’t work for me, but if you can live with it, that version turns into a spider (what?) and can be held by the Samurai Megazord, which is admittedly cool. You should be able to fit him into the Clawzord's hand as well, putting ALL of Genta/Antonio's stuff together simultaneously.

Groovy.
