DX Datas Hyper (2010)

Much like Go-Roader and DaiGoyou before him, Datas is extremely close to plastic nirvana. He has a bevy of sounds both as his normal self, and in his mecha incarnation, that appropriately change depending on whether or not the included Hyper Change Headder is attached. He comes with the Summon card for said Headder and the Combine card for Hyper Gosei Great. Their backs feature his normal, angry, and scared eyes, as well as a screen for when he's a Dice-O machine. I believe more eyes were printed on promotional cards, but the included ones are more than enough, imo. He can combine with the Mystic Brothers and while odd, I do quite like the end result, functionality-wise. Hyper Gosei Great, conversely, is a mess I simply tolerate in its thankfully rare appearances. I did recently figure out what they may have been going for, though, thanks to Gran Prix 39!

There's a lengthy note about Ground Hyper Gosei Great below the cut.

There is no Megaforce version, as Saban chose to use the bikes sold with their renditions of the Brothers sets in lieu of Datas himself. A miserable decision. Datas deserved another day in the sun over whatever that....thing they called Tensou was.

4 out of 5, desu~

While Ground Hyper Gosei Great is still mostly the same as Hyper Gosei Great, the few changes are rather notable, and extend from aesthetics, all the way to narrative significance. Gosei Knight (in his Gosei Ground configuration, here) fills in the gap between Datas's legs/pylons FAR better than the mask that Datas himself provides for the default combination. The level of physical symmetry present in Sealeon and Skyon is leagues beyond that of the Hammershark and Hyper Change Headders. While relocating them to the shoulders (specifically the latter) may appear disrespectful to Datas, it actually places his Headder behind the wing of Gosei Dragon, as if being protected by Hyde and Mouné, whose Headders are present on that very wing. I'm looking at you and your blasphemous, illogical, and decidedly non-canonical ways, Gokaiger. I am not sorry.

In regards to the Knight Brothers, know that the CGI is correct: you have to put Gosei Knight on before attaching them, as his arms cannot pass between them. The space is too small.

Even though the suit was arguably even bulkier, the fight choreography was infinitely better than was otherwise dedicated to Hyper Gosei Great, in the series. It actually walked forward and competently attacked, instead of just firing off all of the Headders!

Though it only appeared in their crossover with the Shinkengers, Ground Hyper Gosei Great functions as a proper Final Combination for the team. Usually, Datas, Gosei Knight, and Master Head (in a literally spiritual sense) combine with the main team, in turn. Given that the Miracle Headders are present on their chests, inside the cockpit, all three of them are present simultaneously, here. In fact, every normal mecha is arguably present. Summer Movie exclusive mecha are swap-out affairs, because of their very nature. The same is essentially true for the Exotic Brothers. The Mystic Brothers fall outside the bounds of the normal channels of the mecha system. Cube Octopus comes to mind as another such Special mecha.

If you're fine with leaving Hammershark in the box, you could always put the Dolphin Headder on, instead, to account for both Magis and Nozomu, too~

I will admit that I usually take supreme issue with leaving parts of mecha unaccounted for. However, in Goseiger's mythos, the Headders exist simply as heads, until they've copied the remainder of their bodies. I.e., the ones that actually have bodies, at any rate. Ergo, in in-universe terms, it does make sense for Gosei Knight and the Knight Brothers to only be present as Headders. The copies clearly faded/were dispatched, in the film. In this way, the combination is philosophically much less egregious to me than ToQ Rainbow or Kyutamajin. In terms of physical reality, I concede it is the same: much of a mecha left useless and in need of being hidden away. Well no, actually, because you can definitely add some Wonder Headders as Gosei Ground's feet, and you might be able to attach Mystic Runner as a head. Oh Goseiger, you and your modularity~

If nothing else, you're still free to display Gosei Ultimate beside it, assuming you actually have it. The Miracle Headders have a three-fold existence. They simultaneously exist in the team's Tenswords, on their chests, and as part of Gosei Ultimate. It wouldn't be a contradiction AT ALL for Gosei Ultimate to be fighting alongside Ground Hyper Gosei Great!
